Summary of this debate

Auto-generated

In addition to a commitment to work with Fáilte Ireland to develop a balanced regional spread of tourism throughout the country, further advancing the experience brands, the programme for Government also includes a commitment to support Tourism Ireland to further integrate tourism offerings on an all-island basis. My Department and its agencies work to support this agenda in several ways, including through the work of Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, local enterprise offices, LEOs and nine regional enterprise plans.

Enterprise Ireland supports over 4,000 Irish companies across every region in our country and during 2024, these businesses created more than 15,000 new jobs bringing employment at Enterprise Ireland-supported companies to 234,454, with 66% of those jobs outside Dublin.

Built by scoring every sentence in the debate on how distinctive its language is, then quoting the highest-scoring ones back word for word and in the order spoken. Nothing is paraphrased or invented — if a sentence appears here, it was said in the chamber. Drawn from 9,495 words across 58 contributions by 10 speakers.

Question No. 6 is in the name of Deputy Gibney.

SD Sinéad Gibney

The Department recently published the action plan on collective bargaining. The implementation of this plan is an important and welcome step towards better collective bargaining coverage, but there is no commitment to change the voluntary system of industrial relations. That system gives employers a veto on engagement with their workers collectively. Why is this the case?

CC John Paul O'Shea

We are on Question No. 6, which relates to the new AI office.

SD Sinéad Gibney

My goodness, I am so sorry. This is not what I have prepared for. Can I swap the order? I do not have it in front of me. I will have to skip the question.

CC John Paul O'Shea

The question is to ask the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment the means by which the transition of the new AI office to a fully independent statutory body will be managed.

SF Cathy Bennett

I can swap with Deputy Gibney if she wants to take my time.

SD Sinéad Gibney

Would it be okay to take two minutes to prepare?

CC John Paul O'Shea

If that is okay with the House.

SD Sinéad Gibney

Is that okay with the Minister? Many thanks. My apologies.

SF Cathy Bennett

I am down the list a bit, so I can swap with Deputy Gibney and she can take my slot.

SD Sinéad Gibney

Perfect.
