Flood Prevention Measures Seanad Éireann — 2026-10-01 ============================================================ Manus Boyle (FG), Nominated by the Taoiseach I thank the Minister of State. I note that he has approved another €12,000 for Inver and I am very thankful to him for doing that. When he was in Inver that day, he saw the pain on people's faces and he listened to them. He told me before he left that evening that he would try to sort this for me and I really appreciate it. We need to get this worked on now. There was a good summer there and we could have had it all done but it did not happen. I ask the Minister of State to keep the hammer on people so that we get this done as soon as possible. I went down there a couple of weeks ago for a walk and the erosion is getting worse. We really need to get this work done as soon as possible. The same is true for Killybegs; the Minister of State feels the pain of its people, too. He has been there twice. Before my time, the Minister of State visited Killybegs and he is held in very high esteem there. He said he would get it sorted. I urge him to push Killybegs on, too. These people have dealt with this on two occasions, as can be seen from the footage. The Minister of State comes from a place that was damaged and he knows what it is like to see the water coming down and going into people's houses. It really destroys them and it takes them a long time to get back to normal. These people are living in fear. On 27 September, there was a flash flood and the phone was ringing right away, with people asking if they would get sandbags even though the flood was a couple of miles away from the town. They are so anxious and afraid of something happening again. I ask the Minister of State to push Killybegs on, too. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
