Public Transport and Fare Increases: Motion [Private Members] Dail Éireann — 2026-09-29 ============================================================ Ann Graves (SF), Dublin Fingal East A major issue for those senior citizens is the lack of the regular bus service that was promised between Swords and Beaumont Hospital. I received confirmation from the HSE last week that the service would be running by the last quarter of 2026. Two days later, I got a contradictory letter from the NTA saying the service would not be in place until 2028. Pensioners cannot fork out €60 for a round trip to hospital appointments. The Minister is a local TD and is responsible for transport. He is failing communities across Dublin Fingal East. He said he has spoken to commuters but, clearly, he is not listening to them. Swords and Donabate are two of the fastest-growing areas in Fingal but a decent, reliable public transport service is not being provided. Yesterday, people spent more than an hour sitting in their cars in a traffic jam from Swords to Donabate because there is no alternative reliable service in place for them. I genuinely look forward to the delivery of the metro. We have been waiting 35 years for it and it is still a few years away. In the meantime, I call on the Minister to ensure residents in Swords get a regular bus service to Beaumont Hospital as a matter of urgency and that a linked-up, reliable and sustainable public transport service is put in place to serve the people of Dublin Fingal East. --- Source: Houses of the Oireachtas.
